Proudly serving Crystal Lake, Algonquin, Lake in the Hills and nearby areas of Illinois.

Invisalign treatment processDr. Sandhu and our team will make sure you are prepared for Invisalign® treatment every step of the way. Below, find some of the basic phases of the Invisalign® process.

The consultation: Dr. Sandhu will examine your teeth and bite. Together you will discuss your goals for your teeth and smile. She will then make a determination of your candidacy for Invisalign®.

X-rays and impressions: These images are sent to the Invisalign® lab, so that the company can make your customized series of aligners. X-rays and impressions enable Dr. Sandhu to plan out each phase of your treatment, getting the teeth to move in a precise way over the course of treatment.

Getting your aligners: Once your aligners are completed, you will come back to our office to receive them. If your treatment includes attachments on the surface of your teeth, Dr. Sandhu will place them at this appointment. Attachments are small, tooth-colored mounds of composite resin. They are placed on some of the teeth in order to act as an anchor for the Invisalign® aligner. The attachments provide grip so the plastic does not slip.

You will also receive a set of aligners to last you for the next several weeks. Before you leave our office, you will practice inserting and taking out the aligners, so we know you've got the hang of it.

Wearing your aligners: Once you leave our office, you will be in charge of wearing your aligners for at least 22 hours a day. Take them out only to eat and to drink anything other than water. You also take them out to brush and floss.

Lifelong retention: Once you have completed your Invisalign® treatment and your gorgeous new smile is revealed, our dentist will explain the use of retainers. Whether a permanent retainer or removable retainer is selected, you will need to plan to use the retainer for as long as you want to maintain your new smile - i.e., for life! Although you may need to wear the retainer around the clock at first, you will eventually be able to switch to nighttime wear.
