Brighter and More Youthful
There are several cosmetic dentistry procedures that can rival the aesthetic impact of a surgical facelift. Porcelain veneers are one of them.
This procedure can effectively address chipped, stained or crooked teeth, and enable you to achieve the smile of your dreams.
What Exactly Is a Veneer?
Your porcelain veneers will be razor-thin shells that are custom-made to blanket the fronts of your teeth.
Our northern Illinois dentist prefers porcelain veneers over similar products made from other materials because porcelain can be colored the exact shade of your natural teeth. It's a durable, resilient material that also resists staining.
You might consider porcelain veneers if you struggle with one or more of the following issues:
- Stained teeth
- Worn down teeth
- Chipped or broken teeth
- Misaligned, uneven teeth
- Gapped teeth
During your porcelain veneers consultation, Dr. Sandhu will evaluate the overall health of your teeth and gums, listen to your challenges and hopes for your smile, and show off examples of how effective porcelain veneers can be for patients much like you.
When it's time to receive your porcelain veneers, most patients require two visits followed by periodic checkups.
Common Questions About Veneers
If you have any questions at all, we encourage you to call our office. Our experienced staff will make sure you have all the information you need. In the meantime, here are some of the most common questions and answers:
How long will they last? There is no predetermined longevity for veneers. With proper care and good dental habits, they could last a decade or perhaps longer. They are highly resistant to discoloration and breaking, but, eventually, both of these things can occur.
How do I care for them? Continue to practice great dental hygiene! The veneers themselves cannot decay or get infected, but the natural tooth and gum tissue at the margins of the veneers certainly can. Continue to brush 2-3 times per day and floss once every day. Your routine checkups and cleanings at the dentist are also essential. These steps will not only promote good oral health, but will also keep your veneers in the best shape possible.
Is the process painful? The vast majority of patients report no significant discomfort at any point in the veneers process. Prior to placing the veneers, Dr. Sandhu will slightly abrade or roughen the surface of the teeth, so that the enamel will adhere to the veneer. Depending on your tolerance of typical dental treatments, you may experience very mild discomfort at this point, but most patients have no problem.
How long will it take to get veneers? After your consultation, it will most likely take just two appointments to get your final veneers placed. One appointment is required to prep the teeth and get a plan to send to the lab that makes the veneers. Once they are ready, you will come back to have them placed. That's it – you'll walk out of that appointment with your glamorous new smile ready to go.
Can I whiten veneers? No, the porcelain material itself will not respond to whitening treatments. For that reason, it's important to get the enamel shade you want before having the veneers placed. Then the veneers can be matched to that shade of white.
How much do veneers cost? The cost is variable. We will provide you with an estimate when you visit us for your consultation. Many people are interested in cost and we know this is one of the factors influencing your decision. We're happy to both provide the estimate and describe your financing options, if that is something you are interested in. CareCredit is a third-party financing company that allows you to make low-interest monthly payments for cosmetic dentistry.
